case study

01
Problem

Skiing and snowboarding are fun winter activities, but come with many challenges such as: being able to see how you perform, staying in communication with your group and navigating through crowds.

02
assumption

While skiing or snowboarding at resorts users would appreciate a platform where they can challenge each other and see their personal performance data.

03
Solution Summary

I wanted to create an app that helps snowboarders and skiers are able to record their performance data as well as compare their stats to others on a leaderboard. As I conducted interviews and market research I learned that creating a platform where skiers can see how they rank for bragging rights could elevate an already fun experience for enthusiasts.

target market

Shaun is a 28 yhear old professional working in the tech industry. He’s an avid snowboarder who attends pro-ride camps around the US and Canada. He frequently snowboards with friends and colleagues.

Lives in Denver, CO

  • socially engaged on many apps
  • will take snow sports vacations globally
  • annual income $82,000

Most apps now are "so what?" (easy to get bored of and forget) They lack both utility and social proof.

Cristin is a 40 year old business owner and parent. She’s a dedicated snowboarder who travels with children and family friends who share interest in the sport of skiing.

Lives in Los Angeles, CA

  • passion for ski sports
  • values her performance data
  • annual income $100,000

What would enhance my experience is being able to see my performance data i.e. speed, jumps, and runs.

Carey is a 42 year old sports videographer professional and family man. He spoent most of his youth skiing and surfing with friends. On the slopes he splits time with skiing with small children and being able to hit runs on his own.

Lives in Bay Area, CA

  • values seeing performance data for peers
  • snow sports events
  • annual income $180,000

Bragging rights is an important part of snowboard culture, even small accomplishments.
